Meet our Veterinarians

CARL E. JUUL-NIELSEN, DVM
Dr. Juul-Nielsen is the owner and manager of New York Equine, a multi-vet practice servicing horses from Manhattan to Montauk. His roots began on a family farm outside of Charlottesville, VA, where they raised 2000 hogs a year. One of his earliest memories as a little boy was holding the shiny tray for the giant cow doctor in his overalls and galoshes. He was hooked for life.
He did his undergraduate work at both Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia, and received a B.S. in Sciences after 3 years. He got his DVM from The Ohio State University while spending much of his senior year at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. It was that exposure to hunter/jumpers that would propel his career into equine medicine.
Upon graduation, he worked for Dr. Bruce Koenig at both the now closed Roosevelt Raceway and Belmont Park. After 2 years, he left to start his own practice at both Belmont and the farms on Long Island.
New York Equine services a wide array of horses, including racehorses, hunter/jumpers, dressage horses, polo ponies, western horses, and even minis.
Dr. Juul-Nielsen lives in Muttontown with his wife Patty, and they have two grown kids, Britt and Christophe. Dr. Juul-Nielsen has been active in the Village of Muttontown politics for the last decade, having been Deputy Mayor and Police Commissioner, as well as Fire Commissioner, Trustee, and Equine Liaison for the Village.
