Preventative Care Recommendations
>
We at New York Equine love seeing happy, healthy horses. That is why we promote preventative care to recognize and hopefully prevent problems before they start. Below you will find a list of subjects that we feel will help aide your horse to becoming a healthy, and ultimately happier, companion for you.
Annual Examination
The annual exam, also known as the “wellness” exam, is a standard of care practiced in both human and veterinary medical professions. It involves an overall health check that allows a veterinarian to evaluate your horse’s current health status and to monitor existing conditions.
It also gives you an opportunity to ask specific questions concerning diet, exercise, and other routines so that your equine companion can obtain the best care and have his or her specific needs addressed.
We recommend having your horse examined with a full annual exam at least once yearly. If your horse is older (>18 years old) or has a pre-existing condition that requires monitoring, we suggest that biannual wellness exams be performed.
